Dominic Heale of BBC East Midlands TodayThis is a 'fun' event for anyone with an interest in photography. All ages from 7 years of age and upwards and all abilities are welcome. You will join with around 250 other budding amateurs (and 'not-so-amateurs'), seeking to produce a creative portfolio of photos of the West Bridgford area. Only digital cameras can be used. The event will be officially started by Dominic Heale of BBC East Midlands Today. The competition will be judged by photographic professionals.

Frances Finn of BBC Radio NottinghamThe Prize-giving ceremony will be hosted by Frances Finn of BBC Radio Nottingham on Thursday October 23rd at 7:00pm at West Bridgford Methodist Church, chosen for its seating capacity, welcoming interior and excellent audio-visuals. With the generous help of Fotomargo we will be staging an exhibition of the winning photos. Refreshments at this event will be provided free of charge by the local churches. Numbers will be limited to those who have come towards the top of their age group plus invited guests.

Medallions supplied by BRIDGFORD TROPHIESEvery entrant will be issued with a medallion engraved with West Bridgford Photo Marathon 2008 provided by Bridgford Trophies at 35a, Central Avenue, West Bridgford.

FujiFilm A920 with 1Gb memory card - one of the prizesWe have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local sponsors, some of whom have donated financially to ensure the event covers its costs, while others have donated some excellent prizes. Any profits made by the event will be donated to the Friary Drop In Centre on Musters Road, West Bridgford. This year is their 20th anniversary. The centre is run by Ann Bremner MBE, her dedicated staff team and many volunteers from the West Bridgford area.

Registration for the Photo Marathon on Saturday September 27th will commence at 9am at the Scout Hall and Friary Drop In Centre on Musters Road (NG2 7PR), after which there will be a presentation of the rules and then you will be handed a theme sheet ready for a 10am start by Dominic Heale. You will then have 4 hours to take 10 photos (including your entrant number) in the order shown on the sheet. Everyone will report back by 2pm to have their photos uploaded. All photos must be taken within these 4 hours, in the order they appear on the theme sheet and within the Marathon Zone. Refreshments will be provided free of charge (by Friary URC) in the adjoining church at the end of the Marathon.

Entrants must have booked their place through this web site and paid their entry fee at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Places are filling up fast so book early to avoid disappointment as numbers are limited.

How to Enter

All entrants need to book through this web site. Once you have paid your entry fee, you will be assigned an Entrant Number which we will use to identify your photos once the judging starts. There are three age groups and the entry fee is shown below:-

Age 7-11 (School Years 3-6) - £2.50
Age 11-16 (School Years 7-11) - £2.50
Over 16 (Adult) - £5

Consent must be obtained by all entrants aged under 16 (i.e. in school year 11 or below). The booking process is described here.

Judging & Prizes

All photos will be judged by professionals from local photographic societies who have kindly donated their time to the event. The prizes are well worth the entrance fee and the top 3 in each age group will be awarded prizes according to their position. The prizes have all been donated by our sponsors.

There will be a Prize-giving ceremony at West Bridgford Methodist Church on Thursday October 23rd at 7:00pm. The evening will be hosted by Frances Finn of BBC Radio Nottingham, the well known and much loved presenter of the morning programme.
