In 2008 we enjoyed an excellent day out taking photographs in the West Bridgford area. Many who took part have paid tribute to the sense of community spirit engendered by this event.
The venue this year is St. Giles Church, West Bridgford (see map). All entrants will meet here at 9am for registration. It is essential that you book your place at least 2 weeks before the event itself. All bookings are taken through this web site - click here for the booking form.
This is a 'fun' event for anyone with an interest in photography. All ages from 7 years of age and upwards and all abilities are welcome. You will join with around 200 other budding amateurs (and 'not-so-amateurs'), seeking to produce a creative portfolio of photos of the West Bridgford area. Only digital cameras can be used.
We are delighted to have the support this year of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. Not only are they sponsoring the event with a family ticket for a Friends Provident Trophy match in 2010 but they have kindly allowed us access to the world-famous Trent Bridge Cricket Club on the day of the marathon itself. Access will be restricted to entrants of the West Bridgford Photo Marathon only and the pitch will be out of bounds. We wish Notts CCC every success in the season's remaining fixtures.
The Prize-giving ceremony will again be hosted by Frances Finn of BBC Radio Nottingham. Fran is one of the most popular local radio presenters and can be heard each weekday morning. The Prize Giving is provisionally booked for the evening of Monday November 2nd.
Registration for the Photo Marathon on Saturday October 10th will commence at 9am (registration points will be open from 8:30am) at the St. Giles Church, West Bridgford, after which there will be a presentation of the rules and then you will be handed a theme sheet ready for a 10am start. You will then have 4 hours to take 9 photos in the order shown on the sheet. Everyone needs to report back by 2pm to have their photos uploaded. All photos must be taken within these 4 hours, in the order they appear on the theme sheet and within the Marathon Zone. Refreshments will be provided free of charge (by Churches Together in West Bridgford) at St. Giles.
This year we have enlarged the Marathone Zone to include Lady Bay. Unfortuantely, for safety and practical reasons, we have to limit the zone to extend only as far as Pierrepont Road but there are many attractive spots within this part of Lady Bay which will appeal to you.
Once again Friary Drop In (a drop in centre for homeless and unemployed people) on Musters Road will benefit financially from the event. Last year we donated £429 to the work of the centre. Friary Drop In was formed in 1988 and have rehoused and helped literally hundreds of people over the 21 years they have been operating. We are pleased to be able to support the excellent work they are doing.
